MOHAN Foundation conducts Organ Donation Awareness Session at Babina Multi Specialty Hospital

On February 13, 2026, MOHAN Foundation was invited by Babina Multi Specialty Hospital, Khabeisoi, to conduct an organ donation awareness session at the hospital’s dialysis block. The session was facilitated by Ms. Monica Laishram, Project Coordinator – Northeast and Project Lead, Manipur, MOHAN Foundation, and was supported by Mr. Bidyananda Laishram, Senior Program Executive, and Mr. Elangbam Paringanba Singh, Program Executive, MOHAN Foundation. Dr. Keisham Nomita, Transplant Coordinator, Babina Hospital, also extended support in coordinating the session.

Ms. Monica began the session by introducing the team and providing an overview of organ donation. She explained the organs that can be donated and highlighted the difference between living and deceased donation, with the session primarily focusing on deceased organ donation. Participants were guided through the process of registering as donors through the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO) website. She emphasized the importance of informing family members about one’s decision to pledge, as consent from the next of kin remains mandatory after death.

To encourage participation, Ms. Monica shared real-life examples, including the first deceased organ donation in Manipur in 2023, and highlighted the state’s recognition for its progress in organ donation.

She further informed participants about authorized centres where transplantation procedures are carried out and reiterated that the buying and selling of organs is punishable under the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act (THOTA). Addressing common myths and misconceptions, she clarified doubts and encouraged participants to consider pledging their organs after death, underscoring the life-saving impact of organ donation and the meaningful legacy it creates by helping others rather than allowing organs to go to waste through burial or cremation.

The session concluded with an engaging and interactive discussion in which participants were encouraged to raise questions and clarify their doubts. The queries were addressed by Ms. Monica, Mr. Bidyananda, and Dr. Nomita, with many participants expressing their support for the concept of organ donation.

The programme formally concluded with Ms. Monica encouraging participants to reach out for any further queries or assistance regarding organ donation. She informed them that they could contact the toll-free helpline, the Manipur office of MOHAN Foundation, or the Transplant Coordinator at Babina Hospital for future guidance and support.

Informational leaflets on organ donation were distributed to the participants. Close to 50 participants were reached through the awareness session.
