|
On February 10, 2026, MOHAN Foundation conducted an organ donation awareness session at the Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC), Mantripukhri, Imphal East, Manipur. The session was led by Ms. Moirangthem Priya Devi and Mr. Elangbam Paringanba Singh, Program Executives, MOHAN Foundation, in collaboration with Mr. Kiran, Programme Head, AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy).
Ms. Priya initiated the session by engaging participants in an interactive discussion to assess their existing knowledge and perceptions of organ donation. She then provided a comprehensive overview of organ donation, explaining its different types. A clear distinction was made between living and deceased donation, along with detailed explanations of the procedures and significance of each. She emphasized that a single organ donor can save up to eight lives, highlighting the urgent need for increased awareness and shared social responsibility.
She also spoke about the progress of organ donation in Manipur, highlighting the healthcare institutions where transplant procedures have been successfully conducted. The session concluded with a discussion on the legal framework governing organ donation, reiterating that the commercial trade of human organs is a punishable offence under the law and stressing the importance of ethical and lawful practices in transplantation.
Participants were encouraged to pledge for organ donation and were informed about the toll-free helpline and the Manipur office contact number for any organ-donation-related queries. Informational leaflets were distributed at the end of the session.
Approximately 30 participants were reached through this awareness programme.
