On February 9, 2026, MOHAN Foundation, in association with the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), conducted an organ donation awareness session at Banting Hall for healthcare workers from the Centre for Research on Environmental Development (CRED).

The session was led by Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Project Coordinator (NE) and Project Lead – Manipur, along with Mr. Bidyananda Laishram, Senior Program Executive, and Mr. Elangbam Paringanba Singh, Program Executive, MOHAN Foundation. She also provided an overview of brain death and circulatory death, clarifying the associated medical and legal aspects. Further, she elaborated on the provisions of the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act (THOTA), giving participants a clear understanding of the legal framework and the organ donation process.

Addressing common myths and misconceptions, she presented factual information to dispel doubts and encouraged participants to make informed decisions. She urged attendees to pledge for organ donation, carry a donor card, and most importantly, communicate their decision with their family members.

Ms. Pritam shared insights from a sociological perspective, underscoring the critical role of family consent in the organ donation process and highlighting the importance of awareness and open conversations within families.

Information pamphlets on organ donation were distributed during the session. Nearly 70 participants attended, including approximately 65 women and 5 men. Of these, 17 individuals pledged to become organ donors, reflecting a positive response to the awareness initiative.
