Awareness Session on Organ Donation Conducted at the Eye OPD, JNIMS |

On February 2, 2026, MOHAN Foundation, in association with the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Porompat, conducted an awareness session on organ donation at the Eye OPD, JNIMS, as part of its ongoing public education and outreach initiatives. The session was led by Ms. Moirangthem Priya Devi and Mr. Elangbam Paringanba Singh, Program Executives, MOHAN Foundation.
Ms. Priya initiated the session by introducing MOHAN Foundation and its role in promoting ethical organ donation and transplantation across the country. She explained the concept of organ donation and highlighted its life-saving potential for patients with end-stage organ failure, emphasizing that a single deceased donor can save up to eight lives.
She further clarified the medical difference between brain death and coma, addressing common misconceptions and stressing the importance of brain death certification in deceased organ donation. Ms. Priya also outlined key provisions of the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act (THOTA), reiterating that organ trade is a punishable offence and underscoring the need for ethical and transparent transplantation practices.
The process of pledging for organ donation was also explained, including how individuals can register as organ donors through authorized platforms and the importance of informing family members about their decision to ensure their wishes are respected. Informational leaflets on organ donation were distributed among the participants to reinforce the key messages shared.
Approximately 20 individuals were reached through the awareness session.
