Awareness Program on Organ Donation by MOHAN Foundation at Umakanta Academy, Agartala, Tripura |

On January 29, 2026, MOHAN Foundation, in collaboration with the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO), Tripura, conducted an organ donation awareness program at Umakanta Academy, Agartala, West Tripura. The initiative, organized with the support of the school principal, aimed to educate students about the significance and life-saving impact of organ donation.
MOHAN Foundation was represented by Mr. Vincent Debbarma, Project Lead, Tripura, and Ms. Nipa Modak, Program Executive. SOTTO Tripura was represented by Dr. Manirul Islam, Nodal Officer, SOTTO Tripura.
The programme commenced at 2:30 PM with a welcome address by the Principal. This was followed by the first session delivered by Dr. Manirul Islam, who highlighted the role of SOTTO in organ donation and transplantation. He also shared insights into kidney transplant activities at Agartala Government Medical College and Govind Ballabh Pant (AGMC & GBP) Hospital. In addition, he spoke about non-communicable diseases and emphasized the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle to prevent serious health conditions.
The subsequent session focused on organ donation and transplantation. Dr. Manirul explained the different types of donors and the organs that can be donated. He also spoke about the awareness initiatives being conducted in Tripura since June 2025. To help students and teachers better understand deceased organ donation, he explained the concept of brain death and highlighted how one deceased donor can save up to nine lives.
Informational leaflets were distributed by Ms. Nipa Modak to reinforce the key messages shared during the sessions. An interactive discussion followed, during which students and teachers were encouraged to ask questions and clarify their doubts, enabling a deeper understanding of the organ donation process.
A total of 63 participants attended the programme. The event successfully emphasized the importance of awareness, individual responsibility, and collective action in promoting organ donation and saving lives.
