Awareness Session on Organ Donation Conducted at JNIMS General OPD |

On January 12, 2026, MOHAN Foundation, in association with Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Imphal, conducted an awareness session on organ donation at the General OPD of JNIMS as part of its ongoing public education and outreach initiatives. The session was led by Mr. Victor Rajkumar, Program Executive, and Ms. Moirangthem Priya, Program Executive, MOHAN Foundation.
Mr. Victor initiated the session by introducing MOHAN Foundation and outlining its role in promoting ethical organ donation and transplantation across the country. He explained the concept of organ donation and its significance, highlighting the life-changing impact it can have on individuals awaiting transplants. He emphasized the life-saving potential of deceased organ donation for patients on the transplant waiting list.
He also explained the two types of organ donation, living and deceased, and discussed the limitations associated with living donation. During the session, he highlighted the Transplantation of Human Organs Act (THOA) 1994, clearly stating that the buying and selling of organs is a punishable offence under the law. He further elaborated on the organ donation pledge process and clarified that while individuals can register as donors, family consent remains essential for organ retrieval after death.
Informational leaflets on organ donation were distributed to the participants. Close to 30 participants were reached during the session.
