On January 9, 2026, MOHAN Foundation conducted an interactive awareness session on organ donation at Ya_All: The Youth Network, Kwakeithel. The session was facilitated by Mr. Bidyananda Laishram, Senior Program Executive, and assisted by Ms. Moirangthem Priya Devi, Program Executive, MOHAN Foundation, Imphal.
The program was organised in coordination with Mr. Johnkennedy Teckcham, Interim Chief Executive Officer of Ya_All, whose support contributed to the smooth conduct of the session. Ya_All is a United Nations–recognised, youth-led organisation based in the North East Region of India, working towards the Sustainable Development Goals 2030 through initiatives focused on health and wellbeing, gender equality, comprehensive sexuality education, sports, advocacy, capacity building, and free services for young key populations, including adolescents and youth from LGBTI+ communities, people living with HIV, and individuals with psychosocial disabilities.
Mr. Bidyananda commenced the session by expressing his appreciation for the opportunity and initiated an interactive discussion to assess participants’ existing understanding of organ donation. He explained the basic concepts and provided clear information on the organs that can be donated. He also differentiated between living organ donation and deceased organ donation, helping participants gain a better understanding of both processes. He highlighted that organs donated after brain death can save multiple lives and significantly improve the quality of life of patients suffering from end-stage organ failure.
He further emphasized that the commercial trading of organs is a serious criminal offense punishable under the law. Addressing common myths and misconceptions, he clarified that most major religions support organ donation as a humanitarian act. He also reassured participants that organ donation does not cause disfigurement of the deceased.
The session concluded with an open discussion, during which participants’ questions were addressed. Attendees were encouraged to consider registering as organ donors and were advised to refer to the informational pamphlets distributed at the end of the program. The session was attended by approximately 30 participants, who gained meaningful insights into organ donation and its life-saving impact.
