Awareness Program on Organ Donation at Meenakshi Polymers Pvt. Ltd., Gurugram, Haryana |
|
On January 10, 2026, MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness session on organ donation for the staff of Meenakshi Polymers Pvt. Ltd. at their office in Gurugram, Haryana.
The session was organized by Mr. Anuj Nagpal, CII Chapter Lead, Gurugram. It was led by Ms. Simran Anand, Programme Officer, MOHAN Foundation (NCR), and supported by Mr. Sajan Jaiswal, Intern, MOHAN Foundation (NCR).
The session started with an interactive discussion to assess participants’ existing knowledge and common misconceptions about organ donation. This was followed by a structured PowerPoint presentation covering the facts, ethics, and real-world impact of organ donation through real cases of organ donation. The presentation was clear and engaging, and most misconceptions were addressed organically during the discussion.
Key topics included a brief history and statistical view of organ donation in India and globally, the legal and ethical frameworks governing organ donation and transplantation, and the different types of organ donation and how they are professionally coordinated. A short video on brain-stem death was also shown to the participants, a concept that was entirely new to many participants.
During the Q&A session, participants raised concerns about the difference between coma and brain-stem death, fears of illegal financial involvement, and family and societal barriers to organ donation. Ms. Simran addressed each question patiently and provided clear and factual explanations.
An important insight emerged during the discussion - many participants initially associated “neediness” only with financial hardship. Several expressed willingness to donate organs only if the recipient was financially poor. The session clarified that organ allocation is based solely on medical criteria and urgency, and that every individual on the waiting list is equally in need.
The session concluded with a brief recap, where participants were encouraged to reflect on common social myths and illegal practices related to organ donation. They responded actively and demonstrated a clear improvement in understanding.
Around 25 staff members attended the session. Participants expressed appreciation for the discussion, and many showed interest in pledging for organ donation.
