Bridging the Gap: Comprehensive Awareness Program on Organ and Tissue Donation at Toshniwal Instruments (MADRAS) Pvt. Ltd., Kilpauk

The MOHAN Foundation organized a comprehensive awareness program on organ and tissue donation on December 23, 2025, for the staff of Toshniwal Instruments (MADRAS) Pvt. Ltd., which consisted of 20 members. The event opened with the felicitation of Mrs. Valarmadhi for her coordination, followed by a special felicitation of the guest speaker, Mr. Suresh, a grief counselor from Sankara Nethralaya. After an introductory address by Miss Riya Singh and the screening of an impactful short film, the session transitioned into technical expertise. Mr. Suresh provided an extensive discourse on corneal donation, detailing the "how, where, and when" of the process, while Miss Riya Singh delved into the legalities, ethics, and the "time window" critical for successful organ transplantation, specifically addressing and debunking deep-seated societal myths.

The program was marked by a highly intellectual Q&A session, where participants sought clarity on complex medical and procedural aspects. The team provided detailed answers to technical questions such as "If the cornea has no relation with blood, why is a serology report necessary?", "Is retinal blindness the same as corneal blindness?", and "Why is the cornea sometimes cut into two or stored after 14 days?" Other concerns addressed included the eligibility of donors with pre-existing conditions—specifically, "Can people with cancer, asthma, or thyroid issues donate?"—as well as queries regarding the vision quality of elderly donors, the procedure for full-body donation for research, and the transparency of the organ allocation system to patients.

A highlight of the session was the inspiring decision by Mrs. Renuga and Mrs. Sangeetha, who stepped forward to pledge their organs and corneas, respectively. They were felicitated for their selfless commitment to saving lives. The session concluded with the distribution of informative literature and a vote of thanks to the company management for their valuable time and for fostering an environment of empathy and social awareness. Their support plays a crucial role in bridging the gap between organ demand and donation.
