MOHAN Foundation Conducts Virtual Organ Donation Awareness Session at HIMS, SRHU, Dehradun |

On December 11, 2025, MOHAN Foundation, Uttarakhand, was invited to conduct an online awareness session for the faculty and post-graduate residents of the Department of Medical Education, Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences (HIMS), Swami Rama Himalayan University (SRHU), Dehradun. The invitation was extended by Dr. Juhi Kalra, Professor of Pharmacology and Convenor, NMC Regional Centre in MET, HIMS and Mr. Vijay Singh, Office Assistant, Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences (HIMS).
Mr. Sanchit Arora, Project Leader, MF, stationed at AIIMS Rishikesh, served as the resource speaker for the session. He was accompanied by Mr. Arun Sharma, Program Executive, MF, Uttarakhand, who moderated the proceedings.
The program commenced with an introduction by Mr. Arun, who expressed gratitude to Dr. Juhi Kalra and Mr. Vijay Singh for organizing the session and formally introduced Mr. Sanchit to the participants.
Following the introduction, Mr. Sanchit delivered a comprehensive presentation on organ donation. He explained the fundamental concept and importance of organ donation, contextualized the current situation in India and specifically in Uttarakhand, and outlined the eligibility criteria along with the processes involved both during life and after death.
To enhance participant understanding, an educational video on brain death was also played, providing clarity on this critical aspect of organ donation and brain death.
Mr. Arora provided detailed insights into eye and skin donation, including corneal preservation guidelines, and highlighted the mission and initiatives of MOHAN Foundation, with particular emphasis on the Anudaan program. He addressed common myths and facts surrounding organ donation and concluded by outlining practical ways in which individuals and institutions can contribute to this life-saving cause.
To further engage participants, an awareness video on organ donation was played, reinforcing the key messages of the session.
The session was highly interactive, with participants raising queries such as: • What are the challenges that Uttarakhand is facing for deceased organ donations? • Why is the brain death declaration rate so low in Uttarakhand? • What should be done if a hospital does not have a certified brain death committee? • How can hospitals apply for a license to conduct deceased organ donation?
The program concluded with closing remarks by Dr. Juhi Kalra, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to the MOHAN Foundation and all participants for their meaningful contributions. She encouraged everyone to continue working collectively toward the noble cause of organ donation, emphasizing the importance of sustained efforts to create greater awareness and impact. The session was attended by nearly 40 participants.
