An awareness session on eye donation was organized for the employees and staff of Sonopant Dandekar Shikshan Mandali (SDSM) College at Tal Palghar on Wednesday, November 12, 2025. The program aimed to create awareness about the importance of eye donation and to address common doubts related to the donation process. MOHAN Foundation’s representative, Ms. Prachiti Mali, was invited as the resource speaker for the session.

Ms. Prachiti Mali began the program by introducing MOHAN Foundation and its mission to promote organ and eye donation across the country. She explained the significance of eye donation and elaborated on corneal blindness, its causes, necessary precautions, and the eligibility criteria for corneal donation. She emphasized that there is no upper age limit for corneal donation and informed the participants that most individuals, regardless of age or common health conditions, remain eligible to donate their eyes.

During the session, Ms. Prachiti also discussed the legal aspects of eye donation, highlighting the need for consent from the next of kin and the importance of notifying the eye bank within six hours after death to ensure successful retrieval. She addressed several myths and misconceptions surrounding the donation process and provided clear, factual explanations to help participants understand the realities of eye donation.

A total of 80 employees and staff members attended the session, and 2 participants pledged to donate their eyes after learning about the process and its impact. The audience actively engaged in the discussion, and one of the prominent questions asked was, “What is the procedure for corneal donation?” Ms. Prachiti explained the complete process, including contacting the eye bank, the retrieval steps carried out by trained professionals, and the respectful way the donor’s body is handled.

The session was highly informative and received a positive response from the attendees.
