Awareness Session on Eye Donation Conducted at Girnoli, Palghar |
|
An awareness session on eye donation was conducted for the general public at Girnoli on Monday, 10th November 2025. The program was organized to educate the community about the importance of eye donation and to clear misunderstandings related to the process. MOHAN Foundation’s representative, Ms. Prachiti Mali, was invited as the resource speaker for the session. Ms. Prachiti Mali began the session by introducing MOHAN Foundation and explaining its mission of promoting organ and eye donation across the country. She then discussed the concept of eye donation in detail, covering the causes of corneal blindness, necessary precautions, the need for corneal tissue, and the age-related eligibility criteria. She emphasized that there is no upper age limit for corneal donation and that most individuals, regardless of age or common medical conditions, remain eligible to donate. The session also included an explanation of the legal aspects surrounding eye donation, such as the role of the next of kin in providing consent after a person’s death and the importance of informing an eye bank within six hours. Ms. Prachiti clarified several myths and misconceptions commonly associated with eye donation, ensuring the participants had accurate and reassuring information. A total of 20 members from the general public attended the session, and three participants pledged to donate their eyes after understanding the process and its impact. During the interactive segment, the audience raised several questions, including “What is the procedure for corneal donation?” Ms. Prachiti explained the steps involved, such as contacting the eye bank, the cornea retrieval process carried out by trained technicians, and the respectful handling of the donor’s body. The session was well-received and helped increase awareness in the Girnoli community. MOHAN Foundation extends its gratitude to the residents of Girnoli for their cooperation and for supporting the noble cause of eye and organ donation by participating in this awareness initiative. |
