Organ Donation Awareness Thrives at ZPHS Medipally Nakkartha

Despite the logistical challenges posed by its remote location, the organ donation awareness session at the Zilla Parishad High School (ZPHS) in Medipally Nakkartha on November 22, 2025, proved to be a resounding success.

The program, led by Project Manager Mr. Venkatesh Kattela, featured two engaging presentations which reached an impressive total of over 260 students and faculty members from Grades 6 to 10. The enthusiastic support from the school's Principal and teachers was instrumental in the session's success, ensuring maximum participation despite transportation hurdles.

The presentations covered all crucial aspects of organ donation, providing attendees with a solid understanding of the life-saving cause:

  • The definition and various types of organ donation.
  • The essential distinction between brain death and cardiac arrest.
  • The significance of carrying a donor card.
  • The procedural aspects of the consent process.
  • Common myths and misconceptions surrounding organ donation.
  • The pressing societal need for organ donation.

The session sparked great curiosity, particularly among the students, who posed thought-provoking questions, demonstrating a deep interest in the practical aspects of donation:

  • How can we tell when brain death is declared at the local hospital?
  • Can a person who has received an eye transplant still donate their own organs?

These questions allowed the Project Manager to provide targeted explanations regarding medico-legal procedures and donor eligibility criteria. The session concluded on a high note, with many attendees pledging their support for the cause. We are delighted by the commitment shown, particularly by the staff, with 6 faculty members formally pledging to donate their organs.

This event successfully brought vital information to a remote school community, reinforcing the message that the gift of life is accessible to all willing individuals.
