On November 27, 2025, MOHAN Foundation, in association with the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, conducted an awareness session on organ donation at the New Outpatient Department (OPD) Block of RIMS, Imphal, as part of the ongoing public education initiatives.

The session was led by Mr. Bidyananda Laishram, Senior Program Executive, along with Mr. Victor Rajkumar, Program Executive, and Ms. Priya Moirangthem, Program Executive, MOHAN Foundation, Imphal. The program was organised in collaboration with Ms. Chongtham Pritam Devi, Transplant Coordinator, RIMS, Imphal.

Ms. Pritam explained the various organs that can be donated and clearly distinguished between living and deceased donations. She also highlighted the current status of organ donation in Manipur, noting that kidney transplant services are being carried out at RIMS and JNIMS in the government sector.

Mr. Bidyananda further elaborated on the legal framework under the Transplantation of Human Organs Act (THOA) 1994, emphasising that the buying and selling of organs is strictly punishable. He addressed common religious myths and explained how organ donation can offer new hope to patients in need. He also informed the participants about the process of pledging for organ donation, described how the pledge system operates, and clarified the crucial role of family consent in the donation process.

Mr. Bidyananda interacted with the participants, answering their queries and deepening their understanding of both living and deceased organ donation. Information pamphlets on organ donation were distributed during the session. Nearly 80 participants attended, gaining valuable insights and a greater appreciation of the significance of organ donation.
