Awareness Session on Organ Donation at Purkal Youth Development Society, Purkal Village, Dehradun

On November 17, 2025, MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness session on organ donation at Purkal Youth Development Society, Purkal Village, Dehradun. The session was organized at the invitation of the school’s Admin Staff, Ms. Sakshi.

The initiative was inspired by Mr. Vansh Bhardwaj, an alumnus of the school, who honoured his late grandmother’s wish by donating her eyes at Swami Rama Himalayan Hospital and Eye Bank, Dehradun. Motivated by this experience, he connected with Mr. Sanchit through the MOHAN Foundation website to help facilitate an awareness session at his alma mater.

The session was led by Mr. Sanchit Arora, Project Leader – MOHAN Foundation, posted at AIIMS Rishikesh, and supported by Mr. Arun Sharma, Program Executive, MF Uttarakhand. Students and staff members participated in the program.

Mr. Sanchit began by asking students to share their existing understanding of organ donation. He then covered a range of topics, including:

• What organ donation is and why it is important

• Who can be an organ donor

• Living and deceased donation

• Organ donation during life and after death

• Brain death and how it differs from coma

• Eye donation, skin donation, and corneal preservation

• The Transplantation of Human Organs Act (THOA), 1994

• Living kidney transplantation facility at AIIMS Rishikesh

• Common myths and facts

• How individuals can contribute to the cause

• Goals and initiatives of MOHAN Foundation, including Anudaan

In conclusion, Mr. Sanchit emphasized the urgent need for organ donation in India and encouraged participants to initiate conversations with their families, friends, and communities before making an informed decision to pledge.

The session saw active participation, with students raising thoughtful questions, such as:

• If I pledge today, is my family’s consent still required after my death?

• Who is eligible to become an organ donor?

• Are the costs of organ donation covered by the transplant recipient?

• Are organs ever wasted if no matching recipient is found?

• How is prioritization of organ recipients determined?

The program ended with students appreciating the efforts of MOHAN Foundation and expressing their willingness to discuss organ donation with their families.

Nearly 100 participants attended the session.
