On November 14, 2025, MOHAN Foundation, in association with the Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC), Kshetrigao, and the Department of Community Medicine, Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), conducted an organ donation awareness session at Kshetri Bengoon Awang Top, Imphal East, Manipur. The session was facilitated by Mr. Bidyananda Laishram, Senior Program Executive, along with Mr. Victor Rajkumar and Ms. Priya Moirangthem, Program Executives, MOHAN Foundation.
The program was organized as part of the World Diabetes Day cum Cancer Awareness initiative under the National Health Mission (NHM). Postgraduate medical students from JNIMS also participated, delivering insightful sessions on diabetes, hypertension, and cancer.
Building on the points presented by the postgraduate students, Mr. Bidyananda highlighted that conditions such as diabetes and hypertension—often referred to as a “silent tsunami”—can lead to severe complications that may result in end-stage organ failure. He then introduced the concept of organ donation, explaining the organs and tissues that can be donated and clarifying the distinctions between living and deceased donation.
He also addressed common religious myths surrounding organ donation, providing clear and factual explanations to encourage informed decision-making. Participants were motivated to pledge for organ donation and were reminded of the importance of informing their families, as this noble act has the power to save the lives of individuals suffering from end-stage organ failure.
Information pamphlets were distributed to all attendees at the end of the program. Nearly 40 participants took part in the session and gained a deeper understanding of how organ donation can transform and save lives.
