Organ Donation Summit – Best Practices in Organ Donation” organized by Manipal Organ Sharing & Transplant (MOST) in association with MOHAN Foundation

On November 7 and 8, 2025, Manipal Organ Sharing & Transplant (MOST) organized the Organ Donation Summit – Best Practices in Organ Donation in association with MOHAN Foundation (MF), ROTTO East, ISOT Kolkata, and ISCCM Kolkata. Day 1 of the summit was held at Vivanta, EM Bypass, Kolkata, while Day 2 took place at Manipal Hospital, EM Bypass, Kolkata.

 

Dr. (Col.) Avnish Seth, VSM, Country Head, MOST, served as the Organizing Chairperson for the conference. Representing MOHAN Foundation were Dr. Sunil Shroff, Managing Trustee; Ms. Lalitha Raghuram, Country Director; and Ms. Pallavi Kumar, Executive Director, NCR, who participated as speakers and panelists.

 

The summit featured a series of sessions that highlighted best practices in organ donation, including presentations by national and international experts in organ donation and transplantation, early detection and reporting of brain death, donor maintenance protocols, family counselling, multi-organ retrieval processes, quality assessment in organ donation, and Donation after Circulatory Death (DCD).

 

Dr. Anil Kumar, Director, NOTTO, was invited as the Chief Guest, and Prof. (Dr.) Manimay Bandhopadhay, Director, IPGMER-SSKM Hospital and Director, ROTTO East, served as the Guest of Honour.

 

During the scientific sessions, Dr. Sunil Shroff delivered an insightful presentation on the global scenario of organ donation, sharing learnings and trends from international practices. Ms. Lalitha Raghuram spoke on counselling families for both DBD (Donation after Brain Death) and DCD, emphasizing the importance of empathy, accurate communication, and emotional support. She also chaired the session on Organ Donation and Ethics. Ms. Pallavi Kumar presented real-life counselling experiences, illustrating how each family interaction requires a tailored approach based on emotional readiness, family dynamics, and cultural context. Her session underscored the value of compassionate communication and the counsellor’s pivotal role in guiding families toward informed and courageous decisions regarding organ donation.

 

Nearly 142 delegates and speakers attended the conference, making the summit a highly engaging and impactful platform for advancing best practices in organ donation.
