Information Desk at CME on Navigating Organ Transplant & Critical Care |

The MOHAN Foundation was invited to set up an information desk at the Continuing Medical
Education (CME) program titled “Navigating Organ Transplant & Critical Care”, organized by
the Department of Anesthesia, Superspeciality Hospital, Postgraduate Institute & GMCH,
Nagpur.
The CME was inaugurated by Dr. Raj Gajbhiye, Dean, GMCH Nagpur, who served as the Chief
Guest. In his address, Dr. Gajbhiye highlighted the remarkable contribution of the MOHAN
Foundation in promoting deceased organ donation across India. He also announced that Heart,
Liver, and Pancreas Transplant Units will soon become operational at GMCH Nagpur.
The scientific sessions covered various aspects of organ transplantation and critical care:
Dr. Shilesh Gehukar spoke on “Transplant Licensing – The Final Step in Surgical
Readiness.”
Dr. Vjanati Gadre delivered a lecture on “Brainstem Death: Criteria, Confirmation & Pre-
retrieval Care.”
Dr. Sanjay Kolte presented on “Kidney Transplantation: From Donor Nephrectomy to
Graft Survival.”
Dr. Nandkishor Raut, Head of the Department of Ophthalmology, discussed “Restoring
Sight: The Role of Corneal Transplantation.”
Dr. Surendra Patil, Head of the Department of Plastic Surgery, spoke on “Reconstruction
for a New Identity: Hand and Face Transplantation.”
Dr. Satish Das explained “Breath and Beat Restored: The Science of Heart and Lung
Transplantation.”
Dr. Gayatri Deshpande concluded the session with her talk on “From Failure to
Function: Advances in Liver and Pancreas Transplantation.”
The CME was attended by nearly 150 participants, including postgraduate students, doctors,
and nursing staff, who gained valuable insights into navigating the transplant process.
The MOHAN Foundation information desk provided attendees with educational materials and
guidance on organ donation. Participants were also encouraged to take the online pledge to
donate organs, contributing to the cause of saving lives through transplantation.
