On October 16, 2025, MOHAN Foundation, Uttarakhand, participated in an Organ Donation Awareness and Commitment Wall Signing Program organized by Max Hospital, Dehradun.
The event featured presentations by Dr. A.K. Singh, HOD, Department of Neurosurgery, Max Dehradun; Dr. Puneet Arora, HOD, Department of Nephrology, Max Dehradun; and Mr. Sanchit Arora, Project Leader, MOHAN Foundation, Uttarakhand. The program brought together key stakeholders including medical professionals, nursing officers, kidney recipients, donor families, dialysis patients, and hospital administrators.
Objectives of the Program: • To raise awareness about organ donation. • To encourage participants to sign the Commitment Wall and pledge their support for this noble cause.
The program commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Sandeep Kumar Panwar, Unit Head & Vice President, Max Dehradun, who emphasized the importance of organ donation. He drew inspiration from the legendary tale of Rishi Dadhichi, a revered sage in Hindu mythology who sacrificed his life and donated his bones for the greater good, symbolizing the essence of selflessness and altruism.
Dr. A.K. Singh, himself a kidney recipient, shared his personal journey of kidney transplantation and highlighted Tamil Nadu’s pioneering efforts in the field of organ donation. He also touched upon the legal and ethical frameworks that govern organ transplantation in India.
Dr. Puneet Arora addressed prevalent myths and misconceptions related to organ donation and provided an overview of the living kidney transplant facilities available at Max Dehradun. He also shared data on renal transplants conducted in Uttarakhand, discussed the role of healthcare professionals, and answered common queries raised by patients and families.
Mr. Sanchit Arora followed with a presentation on the inclusivity of organ donation, stressing that individuals of any race, religion, ethnicity, or age can contribute as donors. He cited Uttarakhand’s first deceased organ donation case, facilitated at AIIMS Rishikesh, as a significant milestone in the state’s journey toward organ donation awareness. Mr. Arora also emphasized the importance of communicating one’s decision to family members to ensure that their wishes are honoured.
He further elaborated on the role of the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO), the apex body under the Ministry of Health responsible for organ allocation across India. He explained the process of registration and pledging for organ donation after death and displayed the MOHAN Foundation’s 24/7 helpline number for public reference.
To strengthen the emotional connect, impactful videos promoting organ donation were interspersed throughout the session. In his closing segment, Mr. Arora encouraged participants to initiate open family discussions about organ donation to ensure smoother decision-making during critical times.
The program concluded with remarks from Dr. Emil Richards, Medical Superintendent, Max Dehradun, who extended gratitude to all speakers and participants for their valuable contributions.
At the end of the event, dignitaries and attendees signed the Commitment Wall, symbolizing their dedication to promoting organ donation. The event witnessed active participation from around 70 attendees, reflecting growing awareness and collective support for this life-saving cause.
