Sensitization Session on Organ & Tissue Donation at Government Institute of Forensic Science and Institute of Science, Nagpur

 

On September 24, 2025, the Government Institute of Forensic Science, Nagpur, and the
Institute of Science, Nagpur, jointly organized a sensitization session titled “Gift of Life” on
organ and tissue donation to mark the occasion of NSS Foundation Day. The session was
conducted by MOHAN Foundation, Nagpur, with Ms. Veena Wathore, Project Manager,
serving as the guest speaker.
The event began with the lighting of the lamp, followed by NSS students singing the
university song “Ya Bharatata Bandhubhav Nitya Assu De, De Varachi Asa De.” Dr. Sanjay
Thakre, Director, Government Institute of Forensic Science, and Dr. K. G. Patil, Director,
Institute of Science, welcomed the guest speaker. Dr. Thakre delivered the opening remarks
on the subject, while Dr. Patil emphasized the role of students in nation-building and
highlighted the importance of organ donation and pledging organs.
Ms. Veena Wathore initiated the session with a PowerPoint presentation on the Gift of Life,
showcasing real-life stories that demonstrated the life-saving impact of organ transplantation.
She explained the concept of deceased organ donation and presented the current scenario in
India in comparison with the global context. She further clarified the medical difference
between coma and brain death, the necessity of green corridors for organ transfer, and the
time sensitivity associated with different organ transplants. Additionally, she highlighted the
importance of corneal and skin donation.
The program was coordinated successfully by Dr. Hansi Bansal, NSS Program Officer,
Government Institute of Forensic Science, along with Dr. Seema Kuralkar and Dr. Balu
Navale, NSS Program Officers, Institute of Science, Nagpur.
Around 120 NSS students and staff members actively participated in the session, making it an
engaging and impactful program.
