Akashvani Imphal Radio Program Initiative on the Occasion of 15th Indian Organ Donation Day |
On August 3, 2025, a special radio programme was broadcast at 9:05 pm on 103.5 FM, Sangai Channel, Naharolgi Khonjel (Youth’s Voice), in collaboration with MOHAN Foundation and Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), to mark the 15th Indian Organ Donation Day.
The programme featured an interview conducted by Ms. Langlenton Mutum of All India Radio (AIR), Imphal, with Prof. Sukham Thoibahenba from the Department of Anesthesiology, JNIMS.
Prof. Thoibahenba spoke on “How Youths Can Contribute Towards Organ Donation,” stressing the importance of spreading awareness about brain death and coma, explaining the types of organs that can be donated (including eyes), and urging greater public participation in this noble cause. He detailed the process of pledging for organ donation and underlined the crucial role of youth in sensitizing their families and communities. He also highlighted MOHAN Foundation’s initiatives in Manipur, including collaborations with JNIMS, SHIJA Hospitals and Research Institute (SHRI) Pvt. Ltd., Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), and the Directorate of Health Services (DHS), Manipur, aimed at promoting deceased organ donation in the state.
The success of this programme was made possible through the dedicated efforts of several key individuals. Ms. Pallavi Kumar, Executive Director, NCR, and Dr. Muneet Kaur Shahi, Program Director, NCR, provided invaluable guidance to MOHAN Foundation Imphal. Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Project Coordinator, Northeast, and Project Lead, Manipur, played a central role in coordinating with stakeholders. The contributions of Mr. Bidyananda Laishram, Program Executive (Senior), and Ms. Thaudem Mayarani Devi, Program Executive, Imphal, ensured the smooth execution and wide reach of the programme.
With AIR Imphal’s extensive outreach—supported by its 2.83 lakh mobile app and YouTube subscribers and terrestrial transmission estimated to cover around 70% of Manipur—the broadcast carried the message of organ donation to thousands of listeners across the state.
