MOHAN Foundation in Association with Shija Hospitals and Research Institute Pvt. Ltd. Organizes Awareness Session on Organ Donation |
On August 21, 2025, MOHAN Foundation, in association with Shija Hospital & Research Institute (SHRI) Pvt. Ltd., Langol, Imphal West, Manipur, organized an awareness session on organ donation at the Outpatient Department (North Block) of the hospital. The programme was part of ongoing outreach initiatives to promote deceased organ donation and transplantation. The session was led by Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Project Coordinator (Northeast) cum Project Lead (Manipur), along with Mr. Bidyananda Laishram, Senior Program Executive, and Mrs. Thaudem Mayarani Devi, Program Executive, MOHAN Foundation.
The programme was coordinated by Mr. Haobam Gunaremba Singh and Ms. Sweety Moirangthem, members of the Transplant Coordination team at SHRI. The session began with an address by Mr. Gunaremba, who highlighted SHRI’s initiatives as a recognized transplant centre.
Mr. Bidyananda Laishram introduced MOHAN Foundation and its vision of promoting ethical organ donation and transplantation across the country. He elaborated on organ failure and its social impact, types of organ donation, organ viability after brain death, and shared updates on the current status of organ donation in India and Manipur. He stressed the vital role of the public in spreading awareness and supporting the cause.
This was followed by a talk from Mrs. Thaudem Mayarani Devi, who addressed common myths and misconceptions about organ donation. She emphasized that organ donation is supported by all religions and explained the importance of pledging as a donor, the responsibilities that come with it, and the significance of carrying a donor card.
Information pamphlets on organ donation were distributed to participants. The session was attended by approximately 60 participants, many of whom expressed a positive willingness to support and engage in organ donation initiatives.
