MOHAN Foundation Conducts Awareness Session on Organ Donation at Mantripukhri UPHC, Imphal-East, Manipur |
On August 26, 2025, MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness session on organ donation at Mantripukhri Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC), Imphal-East, Manipur. The session was led by Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Project Coordinator (Northeast) cum Project Lead (Manipur), along with Mr. Bidyananda Laishram, Senior Program Executive, and Mrs. Thaudem Mayarani Devi, Program Executive, MOHAN Foundation.
The programme was coordinated by Mr. Kiran, Program Head of Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homoeopathy (AYUSH), with active support from the staff. Mrs. Thaudem Mayarani Devi opened the session with an introduction to MOHAN Foundation and its mission. She explained the concept of organ donation, the vital organs that can be donated, and the different types of donation. She also clarified the distinctions between brain stem death and coma, addressing common misconceptions.
This was followed by a talk from Mr. Bidyananda Laishram, who focused on eye donation. He highlighted the availability of the Manipur State Eye Bank at Lamphel and the challenges faced by patients due to the shortage of donors. He emphasized the importance of family consent in organ donation and dispelled myths by presenting facts. The session concluded with a detailed explanation of the procedure for pledging organ donation through the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO) website and the significance of carrying a donor card.
At the end of the session, Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on organ donation were distributed to the participants to reinforce their understanding. Nearly 15 participants attended and gained valuable insights into the life-saving potential of organ donation.
