Observance of 15th Indian Organ Donation Day at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Rishikesh |
To commemorate the 15th Indian Organ Donation Day, , All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Rishikesh in collaboration with College of Nursing & MOHAN Foundation, organized a comprehensive public awareness program as part of the “Angdaan Jeevan Sanjeevani Abhiyan” initiated by the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO) under the Ministry of Health, Government of India.
On August 2, 2025, a “Commitment Wall” was inaugurated within the hospital premises. The wall served as a symbolic platform where all stakeholders — including members of the Division of Organ Transplant, senior residents, transplant coordinators, nursing staff and visitors came forward to sign the wall and take a pledge to promote the noble cause of organ donation. Many also wrote heartfelt notes dedicated to organ donors and their families, acknowledging their life-saving contributions. The vibrant display of signatures and messages became a focal point of inspiration, drawing attention from visitors & patient’s attendants and sparking conversations about the importance of organ donation. More than 50 individuals signed the wall.
The observance continued on August 3, 2025, began with a flag march and a 5km walkathon on Astha Path, near the sacred Ganges in Rishikesh. The procession was led by Professor Meenu Singh, Executive Director of AIIMS Rishikesh. The event saw active participation from key faculty members, including Dr. Ankur Mittal, HOD of the Department of Urology, Dr. Rohit Gupta, HOD of the Department of Gastroenterology, Dr. Anand, Associate, Department of Surgical Gastroenterology, Dr. Lokesh Arora, HOD, Department of Surgical Gastroenterology, Dr. Vikas Kumar Panwar, Associate, Department of Urology, Dr. Dilip Kumar, Assistant, Department of Urology, Dr. Sunita Suman, Assistant, Department of Surgical Gastroenterology along with transplant coordinators Mr. Deshraj Solanki and Mr. Vrishabh Panchal.
The walkathon also involved resident doctors, nursing staff, and administrative staff. Additionally, MBBS and nursing students participated alongside members of Lions Club Rishikesh Devbhoomi & Mr. Sanchit Arora, Project Leader at the MOHAN Foundation stationed at AIIMS Rishikesh.
Participants engaged in flag hoisting and slogan-raising activities to promote awareness about organ donation among the public. More than 150 participants joined the walkathon, effectively spreading the vital message of organ donation to the wider community.
The program included the felicitation of donors and recipients of renal transplants & the family of deceased donor, showcasing success stories from AIIMS Rishikesh as inspiring examples of the positive impact of organ donation and transplantation.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Mittal, expressing gratitude for the collaborative efforts of the College of Nursing, Lions club Rishikesh Devbhoomi, MOHAN Foundation, and all attendees.
Overall, the public awareness program on the “15th Indian Organ Donation Day” at AIIMS Rishikesh was a resounding success, effectively promoting awareness and engagement in organ donation.
