MOHAN Foundation Delivers Awareness Talk on Organ Donation at HFT, Indranagar, Agartala, Tripura |
On June 26, 2025, an awareness program on organ donation was jointly organized by the Hepatitis Foundation of Tripura (HFT) and the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO) Tripura at the HFT Nursing School, Indranagar. The program was coordinated by Dr. Manirul Islam (Nodal Officer, SOTTO, Tripura) along with the executive members of HFT.
MOHAN Foundation was represented by Ms. Pallavi Kumar (Executive Director, Delhi-NCR) and Mr. Vincent Debbarma (Project Lead, Tripura).
The program commenced with a warm welcome and an introduction to the theme of the session, followed by a short address by Prof. Dr. Pradip Bhowmik (Founder President, HFT). After his remarks, Dr. Bhowmik felicitated Ms. Pallavi Kumar and Mr. Vincent Debbarma, and the session was then handed over to Ms. Kumar for the awareness talk.
The session was conducted using a PowerPoint presentation. Ms. Kumar introduced the work and mission of MOHAN Foundation, shared current statistics on organ donation, and highlighted the urgent need for organ transplants in India. She discussed the challenges faced by patients awaiting transplants and explained the types of organs that can be donated, types of donors, and the different kinds of death relevant to organ donation. The presentation covered the legal framework prohibiting monetary transactions in organ transplants, the concept and declaration process of brain death, and the difference between coma and brain death. Ms. Kumar also spoke about cornea donation, opt-in and opt-out systems, and the necessity of obtaining consent from donor families before organ retrieval.
The program was attended by around 35 participants, including nursing students, their parents, faculty and staff of the nursing school, and executive members of HFT. |
