Awareness Session on Organ Donation at Kshetrigao Urban Primary Health Centre, Imphal-East, Manipur |
On June 30, 2025, MOHAN Foundation, in association with the Department of Community Medicine, Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), conducted an organ donation awareness session for residents of Kshetrigao, Imphal-East, Manipur. The session was led by Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Project Coordinator (North East) cum Project Lead (Manipur), along with Mr. Bidyananda Laishram, Senior Program Executive, and Mrs. Thaudem Mayarani Devi, Program Executive at MOHAN Foundation.
The session was part of a field visit for postgraduate (PG) medical students from the Department of Community Medicine, JNIMS, coordinated by Mr. Gailen Kamei, Transplant Coordinator at JNIMS. During the event, PG medical students also delivered informative talks on dengue and COVID-19.
Ms. Monica introduced the concept of deceased organ donation, highlighting its potential to save lives and improve the quality of life for recipients. She explained the differences between living and deceased organ donation and discussed brain death. The session addressed common myths and misconceptions about organ donation with factual and culturally sensitive clarifications.
Participants were encouraged to spread awareness within their communities. The team distributed FAQs on organ donation, translated into the local language for better accessibility. The session concluded with a call to action, urging participants to consider pledging for organ donation.
Approximately 40 participants attended the session, which effectively raised awareness, dispelled misconceptions, and motivated many to consider becoming organ donors.
