An influential organ donation awareness session was conducted on May 22, 2025 at the Traffic Training Institute, Mumbai, by MOHAN Foundation. The session was carried out by Ms. Sakshi and Mrs. Shubhangi, two devoted team members of the Foundation, accompanied by Ms. Manika , an intern currently working with the organization. The purpose of holding this session at Traffic Training Institute stemmed from the indispensable role that traffic personnel play in enabling Green Corridors specialised traffic routes intended to ensure that donated organs reach recipients promptly. Creating awareness among traffic personnel is essential to strengthen the time-sensitive nature of organ transport and elevate the operational excellence of transplant logistics.

The session addressed the vital aspects of organ donation, comprising the types of death and elaborated on common myths that frequently dissuade individuals from pledging their organs. Additionally, statistics were presented to highlight India’s poor ranking in global organ donation rates, drawing attention to the hurdles posed by the opt-in system, which entails explicit consent. The discussion was hands-on and stimulating, with trainees asking perceptive questions such as:

• How much time is available for tissue donation after death?
• Since issuing a death certificate is a lengthy procedure, how is the organ donation process managed during that period?

The trainees at TTI emerged as inquisitive, thoroughly absorbed and cooperative. Even after the scheduled session had end, they persisted in posing questions, reflecting their sincere interest and determination to understand the nuances of organ donation. For Ms. Sakshi, Mrs. Shubhangi and Ms. Manika, it was a truly respectful and rewarding experience to be acknowledged with such regard by the trainees. The session fostered a meaningful exchange of ideas and demonstrated the crucial role of involving traffic and law enforcement teams in advancing organ donation. Around 90 Traffic Police officers attended the session.
