Organ Donation Information Desk at Clube Tennis De Gaspar Dias, Miramar - Goa

On May 24, 2025, Mr. Gabriel Pereira, an Organ Donation Ambassador with the MOHAN Foundation, set up an organ donation information desk at a Centenary Lecture titled “Connecting Antarctica Through Philately,” organized by Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias in Miramar, Goa.

The guest speaker was Dr. M.R. Ramesh Kumar, a retired scientist from the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) and a passionate philatelist. He spoke about Goa’s deep-rooted connection with Antarctica and presented a brief video on the 6th Indian Scientific Expedition to Antarctica, which featured a unique single-frame philatelic display in the icy continent.

India's first scientific expedition to Antarctica, led by the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO), set out from Goa on December 6, 1981, and reached Antarctica on January 9, 1982. The mission was spearheaded by Dr. S. Z. Qasim, then Director of NIO and Secretary to the Department of Ocean Development.

Dr. Ramesh Kumar, who retired as Chief Scientist at NIO, Dona Paula, was a member of the 6th Indian Scientific Expedition to Antarctica.

At the start of the event, Mr. Gabriel welcomed attendees to the organ donation information desk, where he shared key information about the importance of organ donation. He distributed approximately five donor cards and handed out around 30 flyers that addressed frequently asked questions on the topic.
