Organ Donation Awareness Session at Traffic Police Headquarters, New Delhi

On April 28, 2025, MOHAN Foundation (MF) conducted an organ donation awareness session for traffic police personnel at the Traffic Police Headquarters, Todapur, New Delhi. The session was part of their ongoing in-service training programs and was led by Ms. Simran Anand, Programme Officer, MF NCR, with support from Ms. Sanya Santosh, also a Programme Officer at MF NCR.

 

Ms. Simran opened the session with an introduction to the MOHAN Foundation and an overview of the organ donation landscape in India. To provide deeper insight into the critical issue of deceased organ donation, an informative film was screened for the participants.

 

The session covered several key aspects of organ donation, including:

• The significance of organ donation

• Differences between living and deceased donation

• Organs and tissues that can be donated during life and after death

• Medical and legal definitions of brain death

• The process of brain death certification

• Eye donation and cornea preservation

• Legal provisions under the Transplantation of Human Organs Act, 1994

• The role of MOHAN Foundation in advocacy and awareness

• Myths vs. facts about organ donation

• Difference between coma and brain death

• How individuals can support the cause

 

Ms. Simran also drew attention to the provision in the driving license application related to organ donation, clarifying that while opting to be a donor is optional, the aim of the session was to encourage informed and thoughtful engagement with the topic.

 

The session was well received, with approximately 80 participants in attendance. The interaction reflected a positive response and interest in learning more about this life-saving cause.
