Music for a Cause – An Event dedicated to Deceased Organ Donors and their Families

On 5th October, 2013 MOHAN Foundation, Hyderabad organised a musical event titled ‘Music for a Cause’. The event was organised to honour deceased organ donors and their families. It was held at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Basheer Bagh, Hyderabad. It was organised as part of the “Joy of Giving” Week celebrated in the country. The Joy of Giving week is known as the “festival of philanthropy”. It is celebrated every year and covers October 2nd – Gandhi Jayanthi and aims at encouraging people to indulge in “acts of giving”. Earlier it was known as “India Giving Week”. This initiative is supported by many NGOs and corporate.

 

Mr. Krishna Chaitanya, Mr. Aditya, Mr. Deepu, Ms. Pranavi and Ms. Geeta Madhuri from Little Musicians Academy sung popular Telugu and Hindi songs along with their team members.

 

Dr. L. Narendranath, Director of Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences was the Chief Guest for the programme and released the Family Pledge card.

Dr. Gayatri, of Ragalaya and Joy of Giving Week volunteer delivered the welcome address.

Mrs. Lalitha Raghuram, Country Director, MOHAN Foundation spoke about the Foundation's activities and also about the importance of organ donation.

Mr. Krishna Wadi and his family members released a plaque that conveys the wish of their entire family to pledge for organ donation. Mr. Wadi is the father of Manasa Wadi, a liver transplant recipient. His daughter was suffering from end-stage liver failure when Aaron, a citizen of New Zealand married her being aware of her illness. Further, he donated a part of his liver for her transplantation. Him being a foreigner he had to haggle with legal hazards before being allowed to be a living organ donor. However, Manasa died two days after transplantation as she did not get receive the organ in time.

 

MOHAN Foundation felicitated Dr. G. Swarnalatha, In charge of Jeevandan, Andhra Pradesh State deceased organ donation programme. It also felicitated all the volunteers and supporters

Around 550 members attended the event.  A green ribbon pin and a sticker on organ donation were given to every person in the audience. Also; donor cards, information brochures and family pledge cards were distributed.


The artistes enthralled the audience with their melodious performance. People of all age groups danced to all the popular numbers.
