MOHAN Foundation conducted a seminar on Organ Donation at AMET University

  • On 29th October 2018, MOHAN Foundation was invited to conduct a seminar on Deceased Organ Donation to the students of Academy of Maritime Education and Training (AMET) at East Coast Road,  Kanathur, Chennai. Around 300 students and staff from Maritime Engineering, Business Studies and Commerce attended the session. Dr. Hemal Kanvinde and Mr. Siva Shankar represented MOHAN Foundation.

    Dr. K. Duraipandian, Controller of Examination, AMET University, welcomed the speakers and gave a brief talk on the need for the awareness.  This was followed by a talk on the Concepts of Organ Donation by Dr. Hemal.  The topics covered were the need for donation, brain death and organs and tissues that can be donated. She also touched on the fears that people have about organ donation. How to register as a donor was also explained and importance of sharing your wish with your family was explained.

    Following the talk, a video on brain death was played. This was followed by a Tamil Movie based quiz for the audience conducted by Mr. Siva Shankar. The quiz reiterated the information given during the talk and explained the ways movies can misinform about a noble cause. The students enjoyed the quiz and were actively participated in the session.

    The discussion was on need to tell parents about the registration, health issues and how to spread awareness. The session ended with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. Hemalatha, Department of Commerce.
