MOHAN Foundation "Support Group for Patients, Physicians and Public"  

MOHAN Foundation is an NGO based in Chennai. It is a voluntary, non-profit organisation . The word MOHAN is an acronym for "Multi Organ Harvesting Aid Network". 

MOHAN Foundation was founded on January 12, 1997 to popularise the cause of organ donation. In this direction, the Foundation launched "Donor Card" along with a brochure entitled "A Priceless Gift" (explaining about organ donation). These are being distributed free of cost to the people in the city of Chennai and by post to people in other parts of the country. The Foundation has so far distributed over 100,000 cards and the Priceless Gift brochure.

The Foundation also prints and distributes patient information literature on preventive aspects of diseases like Kidney, Heart, Liver, Lungs and Pancreas failure. Besides this it prints medical information literature on some of the common medical conditions, both in English and regional languages.

The Foundation has recently started a support group for patients and their relatives who have undergone kidney transplantation and the ones who have kidney failure. Any individual who wishes to help kidney failure or transplant patients can also join the support group.

Realising the urgent need to have a common platform for the "National Cadaver Organ Donation Programme" MOHAN Foundation has launched the " Indian Transplant Newsletter" in association with TANKER Foundation. The Newsletter will explore all avenues to find ways of improving our efforts in making "THE TRANSPLANTATION OF HUMAN ORGANS ACT" a success in our country.

MOHAN was started by a group of well-meaning doctors and members of the public. At present Dr.Sunil Shroff is the managing trustee of the foundation. The other trustees of the foundation  include- Dr.T.K.Parthasarthy, Dr.Georgi Abraham, Mrs.Malathi Venkatesan, Dr.George Kurian, Mr.Santosh Shroff and Dr.Ashok Kirpalani.
