Veteran actor and politician, Mr.Pawan Kalyan has accepted the invitation to be the brand ambassador of Jeevandan, a government run program for organ donation and transplantation. The Jana Sena President on Monday had met the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Mr.Nara Chandra Babu Naidu to discuss on the various issues in the state. The power star of Telugu film is also the brand ambassador for handlooms since January 2017.Apart from his roles as an actor and politician he has also taken up the roles of producer, writer and director. Mr. Pawan Kalyan founded the Jana Sena Party in 2014.

Jeevandan is the state government’s initiative to boost the organ donation and transplantation in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Dr.N.T.R University of Health Sciences acts as the Appropriate Authority for Cadaver Transplantation. Dr.T.Ravi Raju, Vice Chancellor of N.T.R University is the Chairman of Jeevandan. After its commencement, it came up with streamlined procedures to ensure that the most deserving patient receives the organ.

Fifty successful organ donations were completed by Jeevandan Andhra Pradesh. The state has been doing quite well in deceased organ donation for the past few years. According to Jeevandan, Andhra Pradesh has witnessed a total number of 80 organ donations from January to July 2017.
India lags far behind in organ donation rates when compared to other countries like Spain where the organ donation rate is 36 per million population (pmp) as against 0.8 pmp in India. The main reason behind this is the lack of awareness among the people. When celebrities support this noble cause, it becomes easier to reach more people. An actor like Mr.Pawan Kalyan supporting this great cause will draw public attention. If famous personalities support social causes like this, organ donation can go a long way and the waiting list for various organs can come down.
