World Kidney Day - 11th March 2010 - focuses on the importance of our kidneys and the vital role that they play in helping us lead healthy lives. The growing incidence of Chronic Kidney Disease has led to an enormous number of patients on dialysis. For these patients, their only hope of ever living a normal life comes from a kidney transplant. The families of deceased donors, by donating the organs of their loved ones even in the midst of their grief, help patients with organ failure get a renewed lease of life.

MOHAN Foundation, which has been working since 1997, to spread awareness about organ donation, applauds these families for their supreme gesture of generosity. Over the years, the foundation has organised donor family felicitation functions to honour them for their selfless act. The first such function was held in October 1999 at Loyola College. A plaque in memory of the organ donors of Chennai was installed in front of the chapel in the college premises and the donor families planted saplings. Similar functions have been held at the Raj Bhavan, Chennai and Hyderabad, and in Vellore.

Tamil Nadu has the distinction of having the most number of deceased donor organ donations in India. MOHAN Foundation considers it important to bring this achievement into focus and to felicitate the organ donor families who made it possible. What better day to do this than World Kidney Day when patients who have received a transplant offer thanks to the families of deceased donors for giving them the gift of life.

MOHAN Foundation invites you to a special function in memory of the organ donors of Chennai and to honour their courageous families on Thursday 11th March 2010, between 8 am and 8.30 am, at Loyola College, Nungambakkam, Chennai. The gathering will assemble at the Organ Donation plaque in front of the chapel at 8 am. We do hope that you will join us in supporting the noble cause of organ donation.
