AMENDMENT IN HUMAN ORGAN TRANSPLANT ACT

Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:-


(a) whether the Government proposes to make any amendment in Human Organ Transplant Act; 

(b) if so, the details thereof; 

(c) if not, the reasons therefor; and 

(d) the number of donation of eyes, liver, kidney, heart etc. across all the hospitals in the country, State/UT-wise, the funds allocated and utilized for creating awareness for organ donation during the last three years, State/UT-wise?

Answer

THE MINISTER OF HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE (SHRI JAGAT PRAKASH NADDA) 

(a) to (c): No. 

(d): Health being a State subject, such details are not maintained centrally. The State Governments are also responsible for generating awareness about organ donation. However, the Government of India has approved the National Organ Transplant Programme for which a provision of Rs. 149.5 Crore has been made for 12th Five year plan. Out of this, Rs. 28.186 Crore is earmarked for Information, Education and Communication activities on organ donation. The Central Government has spent Rs. 4.68 lakh on this activity during 2013-14.
