Universal Donor and Recipient

The O blood group does not contain any of the A or B protein molecules on its surface. Hence O blood groups are often referred as universal donors.


The blood group AB have both the protein molecules of A and B on its surface. Hence AB blood groups are known as universal recipients

Rh and Pregnancy

In pregnancy if the mother is Rh-ve blood type and the baby inherits an Rh+ve trait then it could endanger the life of the unborn foetus. The Rh +ve blood type can be attacked by the Rh-ve blood of he mother. If this happens the baby can be born still or be jaundiced . An exchange transfusion maybe required .
