Awareness session on organ donation at Central Bank of India’s Zonal & Regional branch in Delhi

MOHAN Foundation was approached by EPOCH Brand Services Pvt. Ltd. a brand activation and event management company to organize organ donation awareness talks for the employees and officers of Central Bank of India across their offices in India to commemorate the completion of 107 years of the bank.

 

On December 8 & 11, 2017, organ donation talks were conducted at the regional and zonal branch of Central Bank of India at Chandni Chowk and Karol Bagh, by the Foundation’s Delhi-NCR office representatives. The resource person of the talk was Dr. Muneet Kaur Sahi and she was accompanied by Ms. Mareena Thomas.

 

In the first session at Central Bank of India’s Chandni Chowk branch, Shri V.K. Mahendru Senior Regional Manager, Delhi North Regional office welcomed the Foundation’s representatives and informed and shared with the participants the importance of organ donation and the need for every individual to pledge the organs by signing the pledge form.

 

Dr. Muneet explained the basic concepts of organ donation and transplantation focusing on brain stem death, cornea donation, Transplantation of Human Organs Act, 1994, circulatory death, tissue donation, process of pledging and myths with their corresponding reality check on organ donation. A short film on brain death was also shown that gave clarity on what is brain stem death and how it is different from circulatory death.

 

While on the subject of living donation, a participant shared with the group that her aunt donated her kidney to her daughter suffering from kidney failure. Information on types of living donation and who can donate to whom in accordance with the Transplant Law was also given to the group.

 

In the second session at Karol Bagh, Shri Ishwar Singh, Field General Manager, Delhi Zone welcomed Dr. Muneet and felicitated her with a bouquet. Following which the session began.

 

Among the participants, three of them shared their personal experience with the group regarding organ donation. One of them shared about living kidney donation, the second one shared about whole body donation done by one of her family member after his death and third one shared about her parents having pledged their eyes.

 

In the end, Shri Anurag Sharma, Senior Regional Manager, Delhi South Regional office gave the vote of thanks and urged everyone in the group to sign up for organ donation by picking their donor cards or filling up the pledge form.

 

Close to 35 participants attended the first session and 60 attended the second session. 30 & 60 donor cards were picked up in the first & second session respectively.
