On Nov 27, 2017, National Organ & Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO) celebrated the 8^th Indian Organ Donation Day at Constitution Club Annexe, New Delhi. Special Guests of Honour were Shri Ashwini Kumar Choubey Hon’ble Minister of State, MoHFW and Ms. Anupriya Patel Hon’ble Minister of State, MoHFW.

 

MOHAN Foundation won the award for the “Best performing NGO in India in the field of organ donation,” Ms Pallavi Kumar Executive Director, MOHAN Foundation Delhi-NCR received the award. Other NGO’s like ORGAN India, Muskan from Indore and Zublee Foundation were also felicitated for their efforts.

 

Mr. P. Periyanayagam, Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation deputed in Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital Chennai, Tamil Nadu was awarded second prize for his services towards the deceased organ donation program for the year 2016-2017. He received the award from Ms. Anupriya Patel, Minister of State, Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

 

Urging all to come forward and donate their organs, Smt. Anupriya Patel said that apart from promoting organ donation, it is important to improve infrastructure and capacity of government hospitals for undertaking transplantation so that even those who cannot afford transplantation may also benefit. Smt. Anupriya Patel also administered the pledge to the participants to donate organs. Dr. C. Vijaya Baskar, Minister of Health, Government of Tamil Nadu was also present at the function. He expressed happiness at the announcement of Tamil Nadu being adjudged the Best State in Organ Donation for the third time in a row.

 

Also present at the event were Dr. Jagdish Prasad, Director General Health Services, Dr. R.K. Vats, Addl. Secretary, Health, Dr. Sudhir Kumar, Joint Secretary, MoHFW, Shri K. K. Sharma, Director General BSF, Dr. Vimal Bhandari, Director, NOTTO and senior officers from BSF, CRPF and the students and representatives of various development organizations.
