MOHAN Foundation in collaboration with Bhopal Organ Donation Society successfully conducted a CME at Hotel Lake View Ashok, Bhopal on 28^th March 2017. The focus was on ‘Practical and Technical Aspects of Brain Death and Organ Donation.’ There were 18 health care professionals for the CME that included anesthetists, Intensivists and ICU staff. The CME was supported by SBI Foundation.

Inauguration

Choudhary, Professor & Medical Superintendent, JK Hospital, LN Medical College, Ex Civil Surgeon Govt. district – JP Hospital, Dr. Vaishali Solao, HPB & Liver Surgery, Gleneagles Global Hospitals, Mrs. Lalitha Raghuram, Country Director, MOHAN Foundation, Dr. Sumana Navin, Course Director, MOHAN Foundation and Ms. Ann Alex, Programme Associate inaugurated the CME.

Sessions

Dr. Sumana Navin explained the Legal Aspects of Brain Stem Death, the current provisions for deceased donation in the Transplantation of Human Organs (Amendment) Act, 2011, and the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Rules, 2014.

A short film on brain stem death was played, followed by Dr. Vaishali Solao who spoke on Brain Step Death Certification and Maintenance, she stressed the process of Identification of Brain stem death in ICU and Adult and Paediatric Brain stem death testing. She also explained the challenges faced and solutions required in identification and certification as well as the different ancillary tests.

Mrs. Lalitha Raghuram in her session focused on End of Life Care in ICU’s including the roles of the critical care nurse, grief counsellor and transplant coordinator. She used case studies to stress on the need.
