MOHAN Foundation invited at “Sukrutya,” Rotary’s District Conference, 2017

On February 4, 2017, MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness session at “Sukrutya”, the Annual District Conference, 2017 organised by Rotary International District 3011, Delhi at Hotel Eros, Nehru Place, New Delhi. Dr. N Subramanian (Dist. Gov RID 3011) invited MOHAN Foundation to conduct an awareness session during the two-day (Feb 4-5, 2017) conference. Dr. Subramanian besides being a well-wisher of the Foundation, passionately believes in and supports the cause of organ donation.

 

The purpose of the District conference was to provide opportunities for networking, inspirational addresses, and discussions of Rotary-related matters. The event recognizes the service programs, projects and public relations achievements in the district in order to inspire Rotarians to become more involved in service. To name a few of the district projects: The Institute Rotary Cancer Hospital, Rotary Blood Bank, Rotary Education Foundation and Rotary Eco Foundation and few significant community services initiatives undertaken by the clubs in the district are Rotary Public School and Rotary Viklang Kendra.

 

The session on organ donation was titled, “Doing Good beyond Life,” and was conducted by Dr. Muneet Kaur Sahi (Programme Manager, MOHAN Foundation, Delhi-NCR). The talk focussed on the need for organ donation, India’s abysmal organ donation rate at 0.50 per million population  as compared to other countries of the world especially Spain, which is at 36 pmp,  the Transplantation of Human Organs Act whose aim is to provide for the regulation of removal, storage & transplantation of human organs for therapeutic purposes & for the prevention of commercial dealings in human organs and the condition in which one person can donate almost 30-40 organs and tissues i.e. brain stem death.

 

The process to pledge for organ donation by filling up a donor card or online pledging was also explained. Rotary’s online portal on organ donation (www.rotaryorgandonation.org) was also shared with the audience.

 

The talk concluded with screening of a short movie on brain stem death.

 

300 participants attended the conference.
