Youth Red Cross creates mass awareness on organ donation at Loyola College

  • On 26th September 2014, 60 members of Youth Red Cross club of Loyola College were to be found all over the campus encouraging their college mates to come to the four registration counters to support the cause and pledge their organs. The students had created a 2 minute promotional audio for this purpose. This audio was played in the public address system of the college.  The club invited the Cadaver Transplant Program of Tamil Nadu to assist in the campaign.    Dr. Felix and Dr. Charles were the chief organizers of this campaign.

     

    The inauguration function of this mass pledge event took place in the L S Auditorium at 11.00 am.  Dr Hemal, Quality Assurance Officer, MOHAN Foundation spoke of the need for organ donation, role of Cadaver Transplant program, how Loyola College can bring change, and role of youth in promoting organ donation.

     

    Nearly 80 students from Loyola and Ethiraj College attended. All the students filled the pledge form and picked their donor cards.  Prior to this in the club room, Dr. Hemal spoke to the volunteers about the concepts of organ donation and about the common myths associated with the concept.  These volunteers were to man the registration desks.

     

    The drive started at 11.00 am and ended at 4.00 pm.  In the valedictory function Mr. Prakash K, Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation shared his experiences as a transplant coordinator at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital. The organizer thanked all the supporters who boosted up the program for a larger reach in the college campus and also he wanted to conduct several programmes on organ donation with different groups. He said that for this attempt more than 2500 students pledged for organ donation.
