Women of Keeraithottam learn about Organ Donation

  On 12^th August 2016, REAL Trust, Chennai conducted an awareness programme for women from Keeraithottam, Chennai. Mr. Lawrence, Executive Director invited Govt. Stanley Hospital to speak on Organ Donation. The programme began with a welcome address by Mrs. Kala Field Organizer, Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board, Chennai. The resource persons were Dr. Karthik, Anesthetist, Govt. Stanley Hospital and Mr.  Prakash. K Transplant Coordinators, MOHAN Foundation deputed at Stanley Hospital.  

  Dr. Karthik spoke about need of organ donation and Mr. Prakash K. started the session with an activity and explained the Concepts of Organ Donation.

  The following topics were covered in his session:

  • Types of Organ Donation - Live and Deceased Donation
  • Difference between Brain death and Coma
  • Importance of the consent from the family
  • Importance of Donor card 
  • Tissues and organs  that can be donated
  • Helpline Number

  Totally 40 women participated and supported the noble cause and all of then took donor cards then all were given an information Brochure.
