Tree of Life in support of organ donation at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, Chennai

  • MOHAN Foundation counselors deputed at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, Chennai joined hands with TRANSTAN to organize a campaign Tree of Life on 11 to 13 August 2016. This was done to get support and to motivate medical professionals, para medical staff and visitors to the hospital to pledge to donate their organs. The campaign was a part of the “Organ Donation Week” which falls between 6th and 13th August 2016.

    A system of tree trunk and branches were made from banana stem and strips of metal sheets were cut in a leaf shape and coloured green.  Each person was asked to write his/her name on the leaf and pin it into the trunk.

    During the campaign the counselors explained the concept and value of organ donation in the life of an individual. The campaign tree and information stall was taken to all the departments and wards to get the support. On 11th August, Dr. M. K. Muralidharan, M.S., M.Ch.(Neuro) Dean of the Madras Medical College RGGGH signed on a leaf and  inaugurated the campaign.

    The people who visited the stall were given green ribbons, information brochures and donor cards. More than 1500 persons came forward and supported the Noble Cause by pinning green leaves and ribbons on the tree.  The people of Chennai wholeheartedly supported the campaign. Many visitors to the hospitals, students, nurses, PG students and senior doctors signed on a green leaf and attached it to the “tree”. At the end of the campaign the tree  looked evergreen.
