The light of organ donation awareness lit by NGO – The Candles in Sriperambathur

  • On the occasion of World Health Day, May 25, 2016, The Candles an NGO invited MOHAN Foundation to its community to promote awareness on organ donation. The session was held at Rapha centre, Kristhukandigai, Mevaloor Kaplan   village, Sriperambathur. It started with a street play on organ donation organized by Ms. Akila, an intern in MOHAN Foundation and team.  The street play enacted on how a donor card helps the patient’s family to carry out the final wish of the patient and how a family is counseled for organ donation.

     

    Following the street play, an awareness session on organ donation was conducted to the youth of the community. Mr. Ruban explained about what is difference between dead and brain dead? Organs which can be donated in normal death and brain death were discussed in detail. The session was very interactive, in which youth clarified the doubts on organ donation. 50  people attended the session and 10 took a  donor card.  

     

    Queries discussed were:

    At what age can a person pledge his organs?

    Can a diabetic person donate his organs?
