Talk on Organ Donation for Women Self Help Groups at Tondiarpet, Chennai

  • On 09th August 2016 a talk on organ donation organized by REAL Trust and supported by Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board. Mr. Lawrence Executive director felt that Organ Donation is very meaningful after death so he invited Govt. Stanley Hospital to explain the concept of organ donation to slum community. The audience of the talk was members of Women Self Help Groups (SHGs).

    Dr. Ambal, Dr. Kanimozhi, Dr. Karthik, Anesthetists, from Govt. Stanley Hospital and Mr. Prakash. K Transplant Coordinators, MOHAN Foundation deputed at Stanley Hospital participated. Dr. Ambal spoke about need of organ donation, Mr. Prakash K explained about the process of organ donation and following topics were explained to the participants:

    • Importance of organ donation
    • Types of donations – live and deceased donation
    • Difference between Natural Death, Coma and Brain Death
    • Organs that can be donated in cardiac death and drain death
    • Eye donation
    • Preservation time of organs
    • Importance of Donor card and family consent

    Totally 70 members of women SHGs, public and field staff participated in the program and all of them took donor cards. Information brochures were distributed to all.
