Updated on Tuesday, August 3, 2010
  • Dr. Sumana Navin, Course Director, MOHAN Foundation, was invited by the Periyar Science and Technology Centre, Chennai to deliver a lecture on “Life…Pass it On – The World of Organ Donation & Transplantation” to school students as part of the Meet your Medical Expert programme on 30th July 2010.

About 90 students were present from various schools in Chennai – DAV Group of Schools, Vivekananda Vidyalaya, Clarence Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Bethel Matriculation Higher Secondary School etc.

Dr. Sumana started off with an introduction to the human body and then took the students through the basic concepts of organ donation and transplantation. She touched upon blood donation, eye donation and then kidney failure and dialysis before moving on to multi-organ donation. It was a fulfilling experience interacting with all the students and we were particularly impressed by their keen interest in the subject and their thought-provoking questions. Pavithra, a Grade XII student from Birmingham, U.K., who is volunteering at MOHAN Foundation, put together a short quiz on Organ and tissue donation for the students which was very well received.

MOHAN Foundation is grateful to Dr. P. Iyamperumal, Executive Director, Tamil Nadu Science & Technology Centre, Thiru. G. Durairaj Gnanamuthu, Senior Scientific Asst., Periyar Science & Technology Centre, Mr. David and Mr. Gangadharan for coordinating the entire programme in a meticulous fashion. It gave us a platform to share information with the youth of the city on the very important subject of organ donation.
