Students of Symbiosis International School, Pune learn about organ donation

  • On December 01st 2014, Dr. Ravi Wankhede was invited by Mr. Jaydev Naik Secretary of the Jyeshtha Nagarik Sangh (JNSV) , Viman Nagar, Pune to enlighten the members on the subject of Organ Donation. The program was held on 1st December 2014 in the campus of Symbiosis International School, Viman Nagar. The School Management comprising of Mrs Jayu Ganesh, IGCSE Coordinator and Mr. M. Madan Mohan the DP Coordinator and Pushpaja Nambiar and other with the senior school students were present for the talk. Most the students were 17 years of age.

     

    Dr. Wankhede explained to the audience about the need and importance of organ donation from live as well as after death. He emphasized on the point that a brain dead person who is maintained on a ventilator would be able to help several people who need organs and tissues. Most of the students were wards of PIO settled abroad. One girl student Nirali Vithlani from Tanzania was very keen to take the movement in the country. Dr. Wankhede asked her to talk to her father who could then talk to the Health Authorities of Tanzania if they required assistance of MOHAN Foundation which could be taken up by the management.

     

     

    The members of JNSV were very keen to take forward the teaching of MOHAN Foundation in Pune. Mr. Naik wanted to know how could they start a Pune Centre for the good of the people. Dr. Wankhede explained to the members the requirement and told them that in near future they could start a Pune Centre. At the end of the talk Mr. Madan Mohan asked the students if they would pledge to donate organs after they were 18 years old. All the students said ‘yes’. The School students gave standing applause of one minute duration significant of total satisfaction.
