Students from Department of Women Studies support Organ Donation

  • MOHAN Foundation was invited by Dr. Bharathi Harishankar, HOD of Department of Women Studies, University of Madras on 27 October 2017 at 11:30 AM. She wanted to get her students exposed to the concepts of organ donation as well as explore ways to working together. Dr. Hemal Kanvinde and Mr. Siva Shankar represented MOHAN Foundation.

    Dr. Bharathi introduced the topic and MOHAN Foundation to her students. Green ribbons were issued to 20 students to show their support for Organ Donation. Dr. Hemal Kanvinde gave a short introduction to the history of MOHAN Foundation and explained its activities. Mr. Siva Shankar explained in details the Concepts of Organ Donation. He explained the When, What, How and Why on Organ Donation. He further explained about the act called “Transplantation of Human Organs Act 1994”.

    He gave a clear information on Brain Death and Coma which is misunderstood by many. Discussion after the talk was on – Brain death, opt in and opt out systems, allocation of organs and internship and careers in counselling.  8 students picked a donor card.

    Lastly Dr. Hemal Kanvinde explained about the Volunteer Training Program called “Angels of Change”, internship programs and Transplant Coordinators Training Program.

    MOHAN Foundation thanks Dr. Bharathi Harishankar for giving chance to share the social cause with the students and hopes that the students will take up the cause as a career.
