Students’ Cycle Rally at Marina Beach on Organ Donation Day

  • On August 13, 2016 Lions Club of Meenambakkam Charitable Trust in association with MOHAN Foundation conducted a Cycle Rally to promote organ donation on Organ Donation Day. Dr. J.Amalorpavanathan, Convenor, Tamil Nadu Cadaver Transplant Program inaugurated the cycle rally from Kannagi Statue  to Gandhi Statue on Marina Beach, Chennai. MOHAN Foundation was represented by Dr. Hemal Kanvinde, Mr. Ruban Victor and Ms. Ann Alex.

    Around 70 school children, 20 students of Madras Medical Mission College of Allied Health Sciences and 40 volunteers from Lions Club Meenambakkam participated in the rally. Most of the participants were on cycles, while some participants were walking with banners promoting organ donation and few others were distributing pamphlets on organ donation.

    After the cycle rally, the President of the club Mr. Ranjit Mehta spoke about their project on organ donation. Dr. Hemal Kanvinde, Quality Assurance officer, MOHAN Foundation gave a talk on the importance of Organ Donation, the age group in which people can donate, what organs can be donated.

    She then introduced Mr. Simon Raj, a family member of a deceased donor, who donated his uncle’s organs a few years ago to address the gathering. He shared his life experience, during his time of grief and spoke on how organ donation is a good cause. He also spoke about how MOHAN Foundation and its transplant coordinators counselled them and helped them in making their decision. The students pledged to speak about organ donation with their parents.

    The Vote of Thanks was given by the Secretary Lions Club Meenambakkam.

    8 participants picked up a donor card.
