Signature Campaign on Organ Donation at Government Royapettah Hospital, Chennai

  • To commemorate National Organ Donation Day, Government Royapettah Hospital, Chennai in association with Transplant Authority of Tamil Nadu (TRANSTAN) organized a signature campaign on 26th November 2016 at the hospital campus. The event was conducted with an objective of sensitizing the hospital staff as well as the general public about the importance of organ donation.

    The signature campaign was inaugurated by Dr. Nazeer Ahmed, Medical superintendent/Director, Government Royapettah Hospital. He expressed his support for the noble cause by signing on the banner which was displayed near the Out Patient Block.  Followed by him, the Residential Officers, HoDs from various departments such as Nephrology, General Medicine, etc., also signed on the banner and took a pledge to be an organ donor. 

    An information kiosk was set and manned by the Transplant Coordinators of MOHAN Foundation deputed to the hospital.  The medical and non medical staff and the general public visited the stall. They all were explained about the concept of brain death, importance of organ donation, myths and misconceptions about deceased organ donation.  More than 250 people visited the stall and learned about organ donation. About 40 people filled the pledge form and picked up their donor card.  The event was first of its kind organized in Government Royapettah Hospital and received a good response from the general public.
